Jeroen Sweers Boogie Woogie Band

From a young age the dutch Boogie woogie pianist Jeroen Sweers (1978) was fascinated by music and was especially attracted by the piano. After a couple of pianolessons it became clear that he preferred one style of playing in particular, the Boogie-woogie. Jaap Dekker, a famous dutch boogie player, asked him to join his theatre show the ‘Grand Piano Boogie Train’ in 2001. Still studying at the school of music he took this chance and played for thousands of people with great success. In 2003 he became one of the three pianists in the Grand Piano Boogie Train and played a theatre tour that would take him across the country. It was the first taste the audience got from Jeroen.

When he graduated in 2003 from the school of music he decided that the time was right to start his own Boogie-woogie band and get it on the road. The Grand Piano Boogie Train tour experience stimulated that idea very much and so in september 2003 the first performance of the Jeroen Sweers Boogie Woogie Band became a fact.

Now, the band is well known at all major Boogie-woogie, Jazz and blues festivals throughout the country.  The band has a reputation for spectacular performances and has enormous energy. In 2006, saxophone player Arnoud de Graaff joined the band and since then the shows are even more powerfull. Consequently, three amazing singers called the Boogini Sisters also joined, setting the band on fire completely.

Besides own compositions the band plays classics once passionately performed by famous masters of Boogie–woogie like Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson. In addition, piano blues and the occasional bluesy jazz standard are strong weapons of this band. By the way, all jazz standards are ‘boogie proof’.  And when Jeroen sings the blues or the boogie this band garantees a swinging and explosive music show.

Panhandle Swing

bandfoto klein.jpg

Panhandle Swing plays classic western swing in the Big Sound style of Bob  Wills & His Texas Playboys. Country crooning with a heavy swing beat, played by eight experienced jazz musicians. Working out the original two-part harmony riffs on twin fiddle and twin guitar is what they’re aiming at. Vocals and harmony singing mix with jazzy solos, also on the little heard electric mandolin and tenor banjo. Anchor of the band is a solid rhythm section featuring Jeroen Sweers as  the boogie pianist of the band. Panhandle Swing - all in western dress – can play its fast repertoire in dancehalls, just as easily as in theatre concerts.
